I work for a vendor and I think this is a slippery slope.  IMO, anything 
other than a zero-tolerance policy for "pure marketing" on these lists 
will result in a tragedy of the commons.

If a vendor can answer a general question in product-centric terms I, 
for one, think that's appropriate/desired.  There are many ways to solve 
a particular requirement.
