There's nothing wrong with vendors letting it be known that they have new
products/services/what-have-you in an appropriate manner. Blasting a mailing
list with a press release is just spam, though.

My biggest gripe with the CMS industry is too much hype/PR and not enough
real information about anything. The press release posted was nothing more
than PR drivel. No offense to Michael or his PR firm, of course, but that's
all it (and most PRs) are. It might be good for press, but is of little use
to anyone on a list like this. The only pertininent information in the
release is that Michael, who owns the company, now is offering a free
version of their product. That one sentence could have been posted to the
list instead of impersonal PR. Everything else in the release is
cookie-cutter language for pretty much every CMS PR I've read.

The old list (will it come back?) was notorious for vendors responsing to
any question with 'hey, here's a cut-and-paste spec sheet and the latest PR
for our product' and that wasn't appreciated, nor tolerated.

Granted, this is a new list, and the rules can be whatever everyone wants
them to be, but if we're going to allow vendor press releases on here, I'm
signing off.
